How Do You Install A Blade On A Porter Cable Circular Saw?

STEP 1. Preparing The Saw

Before you install the blade, ensure that the saw’s power is off. If your saw is cordless, then remove the battery. This will protect you during installation.

Next, remove the blade cover. You will also need to remove the blade cover from orbital action saws that use a dust bag. To do this, first release the bag from the hook at the top. Place the dust bag on one side.

After this is completed, use your screwdriver to remove any screws that hold the black blade cover in its place. This step may require an electric or hex wrench. Remove them gently so that they don’t fall into the saw’s interiors. If there aren’t any removable screws or bolts, skip this step.

You should be careful when removing the bladeguard. There are several interlocking parts that could fall apart if they are not properly handled.

STEP 2 – Removing The Old Blade

Once your old blade is loosen, you can remove it by pulling it out of the slot in the saw’s drive. If the blade is too tight to be removed by hand, you can use pliers or a rag to lift it from its place. Next, carefully place your blade aside to be re-used or disposed of. Before you try again, oil any parts that are stuck.

If necessary, remove any guards from the motor housing after the blade has been removed. They don’t need to be taken out unless they are preventing you from getting to something. Some circular saws may require them to be removed prior to reinstallation.

Step 3 – Installing The New Blade

Place the new blade in the drive slots and push it to the back. It will click into place. If you are unable to locate the place where it should be secured, flip it so that the teeth face down towards the tablesaws. Pull down until the teeth catch on the tooth below.

You can check that they are secure by lifting them from their homes without using too much pressure. Too much force could cause the blades to come loose. If you have a guard covering your saw blade, lower it and then replace any protective shields that were removed.

STEP 4 – Finishing

Now insert the new blade and secure it. Make sure you turn off your saw before reassembling it. Before you screw them back in, replace the black blade cover. If necessary, replace any bolts or screws that you had to take out with an electric/hex wrench.

Attach a bag to the dust port of your saw by hooking it first and then pulling down its clamp until it secures. It is easy to replace the battery by removing the one screw and then sliding the new one in place. After cleaning the housing of grease and excess oil, you can replace the battery with a cordless model.

Now you are done installing the new blade to your circular saw. You may need to adjust the blade’s tension and depth in some cases. This can be done using an electric/hex wrench on the front of your circular saw.

4. The saw should be tested

Now you are done installing the new blade to your circular saw. You may need to adjust the tension and depth of your blade in some cases. This can be done using an electrical/hex wrench located at the front.

  • Blade wrench (the same tool that comes along with all new circular saws)
