Spring Adventure In Chile By Commencal Young Gun Micaylas

Training shifted to a new direction at the end of March. The winter was a busy one. I spent much of my time spinning, racing indoors, BMX racing and snowshoeing.

Posing With My Commencal

From November through January, I raced 4x and once per week in BMX. At least three times a week, I practiced at a BMX indoor track near my Vancouver home. I felt strong after improving my jumping skills and doing some interval training. I was able to place first and second in two BMX Provincial races. I was also a part of the Western National BMX Race and finished second. The Provincial BMX team held training camps at the beginning of every month. They tested us on our sprints and vertical jump, time trials and manual jumps, as well as other skills. This was a great indicator of whether my training was paying off.

Urban DH Racing in Chile

In February, I flew to Chile for two weeks. This year, the course was better and bigger than ever. Fraser Britton was my travel companion, and he always assists me with planning trips. We met up with Cedric Gracia (Communcal rider) and the other boys, including Steve Smith, Eric Porter and Mikey Haderer.

The first step down was my favorite feature on the course. Riders had to do it at a slow speed or they would crash into the sandy landing and be thrown off the track. Although there were some decent-sized jumps, jumps and transfers on the course, I was confident and kept a positive attitude. It was clear that you could either go big or go home. I ran a great race and came in first for the pro women. Cedric won the men’s race; Commencal took second place! Chile is a crazy place with so many fans. It’s definitely the most energetic race I have ever competed in.

Chili is in shortage
When I returned, I had two weeks to catch up on all my schoolwork. I was at school full-time for Graphic Design and Illustration until I went back for a week of racing.

To become a spin instructor at the local Community Centre, I also submitted my resume. I was offered the job and will begin my training in just a few weeks. Teaching is something I enjoy, so I have reapplied to Endless Biking this year to coach mountain biking camps and programs. This local company helps people of all ages learn how to ride bikes.

Chile is warm

The school year is coming to an end. I have only three weeks until the end of my second year. The DH World Cup #2 will be my first major race of this season in La Bresse (France). With Alex Pro and Mike Rothdram, I’ll be traveling the World Cup Circuit.

I love my bicycle

I am excited for the season, and my bikes are amazing! Many thanks to my amazing supporters.
